The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored by the state weather bureau PAGASA developed into Tropical Depression Luis on Saturday over the Philippine Sea east of Infanta, Quezon.
As of 8 p.m., Luis was located 270 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 380 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gusts of up to 55 km/h.
It was moving westward at 15 km/h.
Luis is the first tropical cyclone to form in August. It is also the 12th tropical cyclone to enter or develop within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this year. — VBL GMA News
