Apple has sent a fresh round of threat notifications to iPhone users suspected of being targeted by mercenary spyware. The August 13 alerts reportedly reached hundreds of people across more than 110 countries, although it remains unclear whether users in India were included.
Apple describes these warnings as high-confidence alerts that should be taken seriously. However, receiving one does not confirm that an iPhone has been successfully compromised. It means Apple detected activity consistent with an individually targeted spyware attack.
How to verify an Apple spyware alert
A genuine threat notification may appear on the iPhone Lock Screen and inside Settings. Apple also sends an email to addresses linked with the recipient’s Apple Account and displays a banner after the user signs in at account.apple.com.
