Glamorgan strengthened their position at the top of League Two in the One-Day Cup with a 99 run victory against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

The win at the Rhos-on-Sea ground in Colwyn Bay sees Glamorgan remain top. having lost only once in the competition.

Abbey Freeborn led the way with 124 runs as Glamorgan reached 291-8.

Poppy Walker claimed five wickets as Northampton were dismissed for 192 in 37.3 overs.

Northampton won the toss and elected to bowl and they struck in the first over when Lauren Parfitt was clean bowled without scoring.

Daisy Jeanes and Freeborn put on a partnership of 73 off 53 balls before Jeanes was caught for 40.

Megan Sturge came in to partner Freeborn and they put on 107 but Sturge was then bowled for 52.

The visitors then claimed three quick wickets, but Freeborn reached her 100 off 110 balls before eventually falling for 124 which included sixteen fours.

Glamorgan posted a challenging target of 292 for Northampton to win.

They lost an early wicket when Megan McColl was caught off the bowling of Anna-Mae Shearn and Shearn struck again in the tenth over.

Walker claimed the third wicket, but Michaela Kirk steadied the ship.

Walker's spin bowling claimed another three wickets in an over and Northampton were struggling at 88-6.

Kirk reached her 50 but once she was out for 84 it was only a matter of time before Glamorgan secured victory and Walker finished with impressive figures of 5-41.

Glamorgan's next game is against Worcestershire next weekend.

"We spoke after the game last week (Sussex) that's not our standards, that's not how we want to play and we know we're a good side and I think today we showed why we're top of the league.

"I do think Abs (Abbey) coming in for us as a lone player and scoring a big hundred like that is really special and just showed us how to bat on that wicket, and then five wickets for Poppy you know it was an impressive performance.

"It's a beautiful part of the world and as we were coming past the beach today, I was thinking, 'Oh it would be nice to stop there on the way home and just see some of the scenery."
