Babar Azam-led Pakistan bowled the West Indies out for just 117 runs in the second innings on Wednesday (August 5) and then chased down the target of 75 runs in 23.3 overs for the loss of two wickets to secure a convincing nine-wicket win in the second Test.
The win inside four days in the match played at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain helped Pakistan avoid the embarrassment of losing a Test series in the West Indies.
The victory also snapped Pakistan’s run of eight consecutive defeats in away Tests and also helped them rise from bottom in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table.
Pakistan earned 12 WTC points after winning the second Test on Wednesday and now have 16 points from a possible 72. Their points percentage (PCT) stands at 22.22%.
They are now at eighth position in the WTC 2025-27 points table, but their chances of finishing in the top two and qualifying for the WTC 2027 final are very slim.
The West Indies meanwhile have dropped to ninth position in the points table, and their PCT has dropped to 20.83% from 22.73%. The Men in Maroon have managed to secure only 30 points from a possible 144.

Pakistan will now travel to England to take on the hosts in a three-match Test series. The series opener is scheduled to take place at Headingley in Leeds from August 19, while the next two red-ball matches will be played at Lord’s (August 27-31) and Edgbaston (September 9-13).
Australia continue to lead the WTC 2025-27 points table with a PCT of 87.50%. The Baggy Greens have won seven of the eight Tests they have played so far in the ongoing cycle. They are set to take on Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home from next week. Two wins in two Tests against Bangladesh would extend Australia’s lead at the top and take their PCT to 90%.
South Africa are in second place with a PCT of 75.00%, while New Zealand occupy third position with 72.22%.
Bangladesh are fourth with a PCT of 58.33%, while India remain in fifth position with 48.15%.
The Indian men’s cricket team will play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in August, and the visitors will be keen to win both matches to keep their hopes of qualifying for the WTC 2027 final alive.
