Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was left stunned as Test captain Shubman Gill pulled off a blinder during Sri Lanka’s innings, with the former applauding how Gill went beyond his limits to catch a ball that was well away from him.
Mohammed Siraj and Manav Suthar struck in quick succession to put India in control, before Gill delivered another blow to the hosts. The latter produced a superb diving catch at extra cover to dismiss Kamindu Mendis, leaving Sri Lanka four down in the opening session of Day 3.
It came off the very first delivery of Kuldeep Yadav’s 17th over. Mendis stepped out and turned the ball into a full-length delivery, driving it towards extra cover. The shot carried some elevation, permitting Gill to spring to his left and pull off a brilliant one-handed catch.
