The minor girl, accompanied by another man, had reached the divisional jail in Gonda on Thursday to meet an inmate identified as Harshu Kashyap, Jailer Aftab Alam Ansari said.
The visitors were subjected to the mandatory security check at the jail’s main gate.
Fake Identity Raises Guards’ Suspicion
During the security check, the girl allegedly gave a name different from the one mentioned on her Aadhaar card, raising suspicion among the jail staff.
She was subsequently frisked, following which officials found 10 live bullet cartridges in her pocket.
A fake Aadhaar card and cash were also seized from her.
Girl Claims Bullets Belonged To Father’s Licensed Pistol
The jail outpost in-charge was summoned after the cartridges were found. The girl and the man accompanying her were handed over to him along with the seized items.
During questioning, the girl revealed her real identity. She reportedly told officials that the cartridges had been taken from her father’s licensed pistol.
According to her statement, her father has a short temper and she feared he could take a drastic step after learning that she had gone to meet her jailed lover. She claimed that she therefore removed the cartridges from the pistol and carried them with her.
FIR Registered, Probe Underway
An FIR has been registered, and further inquiry into the matter is underway, the jailer said.
The girl has been handed over to the police for further action.
