A 19-year-old college student was found dead near a mall, close to a metro station in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, on Saturday. The death came to light after Head Constable Avdesh, who was patrolling the area, spotted the woman’s body near the mall.
Police suspect she had fallen from an upper level of the building. During a probe, police also recovered a suicide note from the scene that indicated she had taken her own life.
A team from Rajouri Garden Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Prakash Kashyap, reached the location after receiving the information. The crime team and Forensic Science Laboratory personnel also examined the scene and collected evidence, India Today reported.
According to police, the initial examination did not reveal any indication of foul play.
The deceased has been identified as a 19-year-old student from Dehradun. Her family told investigators that she was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in her third year at Delhi’s Aryabhatta College. They also informed police that she had been experiencing depression after her mother’s death in 2021.
Police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and other required legal procedures are underway.
According to Delhi Police, the investigation remains in progress. However, the handwritten note and findings from the initial examination of the scene have so far led investigators to treat the incident as a case of suicide.
