Mushrooms are a delicious addition to everything from creamy pastas and stir-fries to curries and soups, but cleaning them can be a surprisingly tricky part of cooking. The delicate fungi often come with traces of soil, compost and grit tucked around their caps and stems, making it important to clean them properly before adding them to a dish. During the monsoon, when damp conditions can make kitchen ingredients feel particularly messy, the task can seem even more tedious.
Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor recently shared a simple mushroom-cleaning hack on Instagram that could make this everyday kitchen chore much easier. Instead of rinsing the mushrooms under water, his method uses an ingredient that is probably already sitting in your kitchen cupboard: all-purpose flour, or maida.
