A morning skincare routine does not necessarily have to comprise multiple products. In fact, using too many products incorrectly can sometimes irritate the skin.
Here are some common morning skincare mistakes that people should avoid:
Not wearing sunscreen: One of the biggest mistakes is stepping outdoors without applying sunscreen. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher should be used every morning, even during overcast or rainy weather, as UV exposure can contribute to hyperpigmentation, premature ageing and skin damage.
Using too many active products: Combining several active ingredients, such as vitamin C, exfoliating acids and retinoids, can irritate the skin. According to Dr Sowmya Nachukuri, Specialist – Dermatology, KIMS Hospitals, Electronic City, Bengaluru, a simple skincare regimen consisting of a mild cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen is often sufficient, with additional actives introduced according to specific skin concerns and needs.
