Yash Explains Rs 4000 Crore Ramayana Budget, Says ‘It’s The Same As Hollywood’

Nitesh Tiwari has gone all out for his upcoming film, Ramayana. Starring the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sunny Deol and Sai Pallavi, the movie is touted to be the most expensive Indian film ever made. Ramayana will be released in two parts and together its budget is said to be Rs 4000 crore! The mythological epic will be releasing in theatres on November 8, 2026. Ahead of that, co-producer and actor Yash has explained the budget and why the makers aren’t really worried about the box office. Yash plays Ravana in the new adaptation of the Ramayana. He said, “That is a misconception, so let me clarify it to everyone. Rs 4000 crore is the budget for the two-part film, including release and promotion. It is the same as Hollywood. Our partner (Namit) said this after including all that. Wahan ka maths waisa hi hota hai (The math there is like this). A budget equal to the film, or sometimes more, they spend on promotion because it is global. All of us have to work really hard towards it. Whatever happens, we will work hard and do our job properly. If not today, then tomorrow we’ll make it happen. If we don’t, someone else will but it should happen. That is what I feel. Both Ramayana and Toxic are attempts to position Indian cinema as global films,” he said. What Producer Namit Malhotra said Producer Namit Malhotra, the creative force behind the project, had earlier said that he was inspired by the visual spectacle of Jurassic Park to dream of creating immersive cinematic universes. Though he did not pursue directing, he founded Prime Focus and went on to work on Hollywood films such as Inception, Dune and Interstellar. However, he felt Indian stories were not getting enough recognition on the global stage. In conversation with Prakhar Gupta on his podcast, Malhotra replied when asked who’s footing the bill, “We’re funding it ourselves. We’re not taking anybody’s money.” He admitted that when the idea took shape six or seven years ago, shortly after the pandemic, many thought it was pure madness. “To put it simply, it’ll be about $500 million by the time we’re done on both films put together, part one and part two, which is over Rs 4,000 crore.” But for Malhotra, it’s worth every penny. He said, “We are making the largest film in the world for the greatest story, the greatest epic that the world should see. And I still think it’s cheaper than it costs to make some of the biggest Hollywood films.” About Ramayana The film boasts one of the biggest ensembles in recent times. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi stars as Sita, Yash takes on the role of Ravana, while Sunny Deol will be seen as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The supporting cast also includes Amitabh Bachchan, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh and Arun Govil, who famously played Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s TV series and will now portray Dasharatha. Ramayana Part One is slated to release worldwide on November 6, ahead of Diwali.
