Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s fallout has remained one of the most talked-about in Bollywood, but it looks like the filmmaker wishes to put the past feud behind him. As per a recent report, nearly two and a half decades later, the filmmaker has approached the 3 Idiots star to play the female lead in his upcoming production.
What Happened Between SLB and Kareena?
Back in the 2000s, when Bhansali was casting for Devdas, Kareena had given a look test for the film. With hopes high, when she found out that the role had been given to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the actress reportedly felt cheated. It was widely reported that Kareena felt very bad about what happened and vowed never to work with the director again. Since then, the actor-director duo has never worked together. If the reports are true and things do work out in their favour, it will be one of the biggest collaborations in the industry.
Years later, Bhansali cast Kareena in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. However, the actress exited the project just days before filming was set to begin. While Kareena later attributed her decision to a change of mind, reports at the time suggested changing professional commitments played a role. Bhansali had reportedly expressed surprise over her last-minute departure.
Kareena and SLB Collaborating?
Bollywood Hungama has reported that Dhanush will star as the male lead in the yet-to-be-titled film, and Bhansali is keen to sign Kareena Kapoor as the female lead. The update also suggests that while nothing has been confirmed yet, Kareena has shown interest in the project.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali will back the project as producer, while acclaimed Tamil filmmaker P. S. Mithran, best known for Irumbu Thirai, Hero, and Sardar, will direct the film. The script is presently being developed, with pre-production slated to begin in November. The makers are aiming to take the film on the floors in January 2027.
Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Work Front
Kareena was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Singham Again, alongside Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff. She also received a good response for her performance in Hansal Mehta’s mystery thriller The Buckingham Murders. The actress will next be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s directorial Daayra.
